World of Wheels

The TCRG display at the World of Wheels was a great success. Gary Rosenberger came early on Thursday and stayed most of the day to help set up the display. Ron Goette trailered over Dave Dahlin and his ‘40 Convertible, and they both helped set up as well. Dave’s car sat in the Spot of Honor anchoring the TCRG Banner. Denny Carney drove over and also helped set up as well. Ron Christensen had a few problems early in the morning-had misplaced his truck keys and had to call a locksmith over to his house to make new keys. We think it’s the stress of his new Treasurer’s job! After he got to the Xcel centre his car wouldn’t start while it was in the trailer (“ It always starts on the fi rst pop, says Ron). Ron also had some concern crawling under his car in the trailer unhooking belts and chains. He was heard exclaiming, “I’m too old for this. Bill Gillies wiped out part of another exhibitors display while being guided to the TCRG display. So much for having a guide! Jeff Casura showed up late in the afternoon and proudly entered his car in the competition. Unfortunately, he placed 2nd to a gorgeous ‘38 Buick! As in the past, Jack and Joyce DeJoy got us a great spot for our display.

All in all, those who participated in the car display had a lot of fun and some fond memories that will be discussed for months; camaraderie was high and we were all sober! I can’t wait until next year to do it all over again! A huge THANKS for everyone who helped either set it up, take it down your represent TCRG at the table.

The Twin Cities Regional Group participated in the World of Wheels Security detail all day Saturday, as well as overnight both Friday and Saturday night. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to work. The Club brought in $1200 for our efforts! A huge thanks to Tim Anderson who stayed overnight BOTH Friday and Saturday nights, AND worked a Saturday day shift. Whew! John Titus and I assisted Tim overnight where we learned just how comfortable the back seats are on these old Fords. We also learned how to nap with one eye open watching for “wrong doers. Thanks also to Tom Campbell and his friend John who drew the lucky security station when they decided WWE wrestler Rey Mysterio was tired of signing autographs. These wrestling fans can be aggressive!

Finally, thanks to Bruce Nelson who did all the legwork to pull the team together before he left for the National Club’s annual meeting. The positive “can-do attitude of everyone helped made a very long day extremely gratifying. I’m proud to be a part of such a great Club. Thanks again! Mark

Here is a heads-up on the 2007 World of Wheels Show. The dates will be February 2-4, 2007 at the St Paul River Center. We would like to have 5 vehicles like last year in the 8 car spot. Mike Timmerman’s ‘42 Ford Fire Truck makes a great center spot. Hopefully he will display it again for this show.
If you and your vehicle are willing, we would like to have you be part of the display. Contact Tom Halfpenny to sign up or if you have questions/concerns. Trailering your car to and from the show will be available. I can be reached at 651-738-0838.

Good Afternoon!

All Car slots have been filled for the World of Wheels show.  We have Mike’s firetruck taking up 2 slots, plus 3 cars and 1 pickup truck. Thank you for participating, it should be a great show!

We are now looking for Club members to have some fun enjoying the show for free by sitting at the display table for 2 hour “shifts” starting Friday, February 3rd., through Sunday, February 5th.  We would like to have 2 people (or more) for each block of time.

The times are 3Pm to 10PM Friday, 11AM to 10PM Saturday, and 11AM to 6PM Sunday. If you plan to do security on Saturday, block off some time before or after your security detail to sit in the car display booth.  Have some fun in the display area!

Free 3 day passes to those who sign up!  Treat those kids.  Treat the spouse- go out to dinner after.  Treat those grandkids.  Besides cars, there is entertainment!

Email your response to Tom Halfpenny: tmhalfpenny@msn.com . Or phone him at 651-738-0838.  You will be glad you did!

Thanks for your support.

Mike Timmermans has offered to display his ‘43 Ford 1 1/2 ton fire truck; Tom Halfpenny his ‘36 Ford Fordor; and Ron Goette his ‘40 Lincoln Zephyr 4 door.  Ron has even offered to enclose trailer cars to the February show if the weather is lousy.

So, we are looking for 2 more cars to fill our 6 car display.  A mid to late ’40’s or an early ’50’s vehicle would be really nice.  Ron won’t go to South Dakota for your vehicle, but his offer for bad weather insurance is really very much appreciated.  Thanks, Ron.  Call Tom Halfpenny at 651-738-0838 or email Tom at : tmhalfpenny@msn.com if you want to participate.

For the last 2 years our club has participated in the World Of Wheels Car Show which has been held at the Minneapolis Convention Center in March. For the year 2006 it will be held on February 3,4,& 5 at the convention center. We had 4 cars on display the first year, and 6 cars on display this year.
Do we have any interest to exhibit cars in 2006 since it will be held in February? If there is interest, then we will sign up and pay the low exhibit fee. Let Tom Halfpenny know if you are willing to provide a car for the World of Wheels car show by December 15, 2005. Tom can be reached by phone at 651-738-0838 or email: tmhalfpenny@aol.com
