Well, it’s over for another year. A splend, although windy and cool day awaited us at French Lake Auto Parts. From what I saw, no one purchased anything bigger than what they could carry home. Dobie got his bumper arms, and Bruce found a van with lots of change and a very funny monkey.

It was not as muddy as we could have expected, and the hamburgers were still great as aways. Next year — mark your calendars now.

TCRG’’s annual traditional Junk Yard Tour is a Go on Saturday, April 28th!

That’s right boys, drop that snowblower or lawn mower (each is equally likely this time of year) and grab some wrenches for the latest installment of the traditional and long awaited TCRG JYT! Those of us with unheated garages get mighty itchy this time of year to get working on the flatheads and this is a great kick-off to the season. The date is April 28th. We meet at the Perkins on Hwy 55 and I-494 on the west side of town. We have two choices of final destination and the judges are still mulling this over as this is printed. We can always visit French Lake, hands down my favorite yard in the state, and Floyd and crew have been busy revamping the yard and dragging in new cars for our enjoyment or we can check out a new place. Both have their good points.

Come to the April membership meeting to learn how this works out or simply join us for breakfast at 7AM at Perkins on the 28th to find out where we are going. If you’re not hungry that morning you can stop by before 8AM; we more or less start at 8AM. Call John Titus at 507-744-2770 if you can’t make the meeting on the 4th but want to spoil the surprise.

I know this is not very creative for our Spring Tour but we have a lot of work to do before our National Meet. Since the number of people attending has reached epic proportions, I thought we could use this tour for a trial run and we could tie up lose ends.

I have made arrangements to stay at the headquarters hotel in Winona. The date is Saturday May 19, and return home Sunday the 20. I have set aside 12 non-smoking rooms at the Riverport Inn at a cost of $68.00 for Saturday night.

When you call tell them the rooms are listed under TCRG. The phone numbers are 1-507-452-0606 or 1-800-595-0606. These rooms will be held till May 1, 2007. We will meet at a time and location to be announced in the next Rumble Sheet. Let me know if you will be attending. Thank you.

On Saturday, September 9, 2006, Wayzata will be celebrating its Thirty-Second Annual James J. Hill Days. The weekend festivities will include a Food Fair, Carnival, Arts and Crafts Fair, Sidewalk Sales, Steamboat Minnehaha Tours, a Pig Roast, Passenger Train Rides, and many other activities including a Vintage Car Display from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the south parking lot of the Wayzata Bay Center.

You are cordially invited to bring your V-8 to the 32nd J. J. Hill Days Celebration. Many of you will remember the show we had two years ago during Wayzata’s 150th Birthday and have asked if we would do it again. We had about seventy great cars and trucks and would like to increase that to one hundred this year. This will be a “Show and Shine event with no judging or trophies so here is your chance to get together with other vintage car enthusiasts and “kick the tires.

Please call, write, fax or email by September 5th – your name, year and make of your car or cars and a phone number or email address where you may be reached. Please arrive before 10:00 AM and follow the signs to the Lake Street entrance to the Wayzata Bay Center south parking lot. You will be directed to a pre-assigned parking spot. There is a map on the reverse side of this page, but contact me if you need directions.

Mary and I spent a week (July 24- 30) in Auburn, Indiana going to museums and getting our fill of cars.

We spent Wed. at the Auburn, Cord, Dusenberg Museum and had the most enjoyable time visiting with Mr. Meyers, a 94-year-old former employee of Auburn car manufacturer, E. L. Cord. He pointed out a museum

Display picture taken in 1929 of the Auburn assembly line with him at work. He still has his last check issued in 1929. He told of meeting and touring Jay Leno. And how Jay Leno keeps in touch with him, sending him articles and postcards. He said, “ I think I have something he wants.â€? (more…)

Saturday August 5th, 2006 is the date set for our overnighter Car Tour to Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. We will meet Saturday morning at the Perkins Restaurant in Hudson Wisconsin. Take I94 east from St. Paul and after entering Wisconsin take Exit 2 at the top of the hill which is Carmichael Rd. Take a right and go about two blocks and take a left onto Center Drive. The Perkins is set back off of that corner. For those who want to eat breakfast, be there at 8am and for those who want to pass on breakfast, be there by 9am. We will leave exactly at 9am for Chippewa Falls, as there are about 15 cars going on the tour so we need to be on time. I will have my cell phone on for any problems. Call Gary Rosenberger at 651-470-5992. Thank You
